  3. Vocabulary Review • volume – the three-dimensional space occupied by something. For example, how much soda you have in a can. It might be full or half empty. • capacity – the volume of fluid (such as water) a container can hold when full. The container will be filled to the very top. SMI3P3

  4. Vocabulary • graduated cylinder – a transparent cylinder marked with evenly spaced lines for determining the volumes of liquids. • syringe– a cylinder and piston system used to draw up, measure, and transfer liquids. SMI3P3

  5. The soda can controversy • I recently opened a can of soda and noticed that it was not completely full. You may have noticed the same thing. I got to wondering if the soda company was really giving me my money’s worth. The label on the can says 355 ml, but does that refer to the capacity of the can, or the volume of soda in the can? • See if you can work together and come up with a plan to find out what the 355 ml refers to.
