  2. Media Work (Day 2) • Use the Five Core Concept Questions For This Cover. • What could be controversial about this photo?

  3. What advertisements influences you? (Day 3) • Think of all the advertisements that you see every day that influence the way you talk, act, feel, etc. and discuss whether you think they are positive influences or negative influences. Provide examples from your life to show reflections on whether they do or do not influence you. • For example, if you drive by a McDonald’s sign early in the morning and you decide to stop and eat there, you have been influenced by advertising. Secondly, is that a positive decision or a negative one?

  4. Journal Question (Day 4) • Is technology going to end up hurting the human race within the next 20 years or do you believe it will save it? What advances do you think will save it or destroy it?

Why or why not? What effects could this have on Semenya? Does the need to find things to write about outweigh the privacy of one person?

  6. Answer the Following Prompt (Day 6) • Media Consumption refers to an individual's usage or consumption of specified media or a media vehicle. • What forms of media do you consume? List them. • Using advertising as a specific format, does media consume us, or do we consume media? Give specific examples.

Agree or disagree. Do men receive the same treatment? Why or why not? • Give specific examples to support your opinion.

No Logo (Thurs Sept 17th) • Watch today’s video on ‘branding’ (additionally, read the handout on branding). • Write your own personal definition on branding. • Write a journal response on whether you think ‘branding’ is a good thing, a bad thing, or both. Explain your opinion. • Also, discuss the positive and negative effects of branding in our culture.

  11. Brand Images (Fri. Sept. 18th) • Draw or write down at least eight brand logo’s and write one denotation (literal meaning) and one connotation (implied meaning) for that logo or brand • For example: Denotation: Fast food Connotation: Fatty food

  12. Advertising Techniques Journal (Mon. Sept 21st) • Find a print advertisement that meets the criteria for each technique and write down the following: • Magazine name • Company advertising product • Product name • Technique used • How it is used in the advertisement (what it says) • Whether you think it is an effective technique or not (explain)

  13. Media Work (Tues. Sept 22nd) • Watch the video “Killing Us Softly” by Jean Kilbourne about women and advertising, • Answer the questions on the handout in your journals.
