  2. OBJECTIVE This unit is used to make coil type of spring with various diameter. This unit consists of single phase electric motor, chuck unit , mandrel, dead centre, V belt drive, speed reduction gear box and ON/OFF control. The spring coil diameter is exactly same diameter of mandrel diameter The one end of the mandrel is clamped in the chuck and other end is supported by dead centre. The one end of the metal wire in coil drum is screwed in the mandrel and stretched by hand The metal wire on wound the mandrel by the rotation of electric motor. Speed reduction gear box is used to reduce the speed of the output from the electric motor.

  4. CONSTRUCTION DETAILS There are so many method to manufacture the different types of spring . In that spring winding machine is used to manufacture the helical springs in easy manner . The principle of working of the spring winding machine is the coil of the spring is winded in a suitable mandrel which is held in a chuck. The chuck is mounted in a housing unit and it is rotated by a hand wheel which is connected by one end of the spindle and another end is coupled with the chuck. The spindle is perfectly mounted through bearing block. All the part are placed in bed and supported by leg frame.

  6. WORKING PRINCIPLE Initially we select the size of the mandrel and hold the chuck by using chuck key. In one end of the mandrel is drilled by small diameter which is equal to the coil diameter which is going to wind. One of the end is place in the drilled hole. When the hand wheel is rotate by manually and the spindle will rotate. The spindle is couple with the chuck. So the chuck is also rotate. By rotation of the chuck and the mandrel will get rotation motion In the mandrel we are placing the coil of the spring and the coil will starts to wind. For the requirement of the helical spring we winds the coil in the mandrel. For closed coil type we winds very tighty and for open coil types we maintain a gap between one turn of the coil to the another turn of the coil.

  7. ADVANTAGES Smaller in size Low current consumption The operating principle is very simple Unskilled labour can operated this unit The unit can shifted to any place for our requirement

  8. APPLICATION To cushion, absorb or control the energy either due shock or vibration as in railway wagons ,auto mobiles, shock absorbers . To exert a force in spring loaded safety valve, clutches. To measure force. To store energy that way springs find use in clock, toy motor.
