  4. SADNESS Sadness is a normal human emotion that is triggered when we face a challenge/difficulty, are hurt or feel disappointed. It is usually tied to an event, experience or a specific situation. We are sad about something. When that something changes (event, experience or situation), our emotions adjust and we no longer feel the sadness. This adjustment is not necessarily instant.

  5. DEPRESSION Depression is on the other hand is an abnormal emotional state. It's a mental condition that affects our emotions, the way we think, the way we perceive things and the way we behave. Depression can manifest physical symptoms in the body such as body pain, digestive and sleep issues. Unlike sadness, depression is not necessarily triggered by a specific event, situation or circumstance.

  6. FACE OF THE DEPRESSION Depression is a master in disguise and contrary to what you may think, people don't always look sad or alone when they are depressed. However, when alone, that very same person feels horrible. Depression simply does not discriminate and affects people from all walks of life.

  7. THE PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION Although depression is classified as a mental health condition, it is common for people with depression to have physical signs of the condition. These include: Joint or Back Pain, Digestive Problems, Trouble Sleeping, Change in Appetite, Slowed Speech and/or Movements.

  8. I THINK I AM DEPRESSED - WHAT DO I DO It is important to understand what depression is in order to help find the right treatment for it. If you (or a loved one) might be depressed, it is important to see your doctor or a trained mental health professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.
