  5. Monet (1840-1926) • Initiated and led the Impressionist movement • Painted the same subject in different lights • Preferred painting the out of doors • Famed for his water-lilies theme

  6. Morisot (1841-1895) • Became the first woman to join Impressionists • Confined color to a naturalistic framework • Painted studies of women

  7. Renoir (1841-1919) • Painted snapshots of real life • Used sparkling color and light • Believed are should be pretty • Favored themes of instant appeal • Lovely women • Pretty children • Beautiful scenes
