  6. 2) A fresh water swimming pool in Chicago measures 51 feet long and 42 feet across. A similar pool with salt water in Los Angeles measures 17 feet long and 14 feet wide. What is the scale factor that relates the two pools. Key Concepts: 3

  7. 3) The ships mast on the Charles W. Morgan (the oldest whaling ship still afloat - 1841) stands 58 feet tall. A guide wire runs down to the side of the ship and attaches to a rail that is 24 feet from the base of the mast. How long is the wire? Key Concepts: 62.77 feet

  8. 4) Measured from corner-to-corner, the diagonal of a Samsung HD television is 48 inches. If the television just fits on a TV stand that measures 30 inches, how tall is the television? Key Concepts: 37.47 inches

  9. 5) The towns of Nasania, Gilbert, and Natooleare separated by the distances of 33, 56 and 65 miles. If a line was drawn on a map connecting the towns, would it form a right triangle? Key Concepts: yes

  10. 6) John made a map of his yard and decided to plant an apple tree at location (-5, 8) and a cherry tree at location (6, -4). How far apart are the two trees? Key Concepts: 16.28 units

  11. 7) Triangle ABC has points A (-4,3), B (-3, -1) and C (1,2). TRANSLATE the figure using the rule (x,y)  (x+2), (y-3) Key Concepts: A’ (-2, 0) B’ (-1, -4) C’ (3, -1)

  12. 8) Triangle ABC has points A (2,3), B (4, 1) and C (5,5). REFLECT the triangle over the X-Axis. Key Concepts: A’ (2, -3) B’ (4, -1) C’ (5, -5)

  13. 9) Trapezoid ABCD has points A (2,2), B (2, -2), C (5,4) and D (5,-4). REFLECT the trapezoid over the Y-Axis. Key Concepts: A’ (-2, 2) B’ (-2, -2) C’ (-5, 4) D’ (-5, -4)

  14. 10) Triangle XYZ has points X (1,3), Y(3, 0), and Z(5,5). ROTATE the triangle 180o CCW about the origin to find X’Y’Z’. Key Concepts: X’ (-1, -3) Y’ (-3, 0) Z’ (-5, -5)

  15. 11) Triangle X’Y’Z’ has points X (-1,-3), Y(-3, 0), and Z(-5,-5). ROTATE the triangle 90o CW about the origin to find X’’Y’’Z’’ Key Concepts: X’’ (-3, 1) Y’’ (0, 3) Z’’ (-5, 5)

  16. 12) Triangle JKL has points J (-1,-2), K(-2,2), and L (2,0). Perform a DILATION using a scale factor of 2. Key Concepts: J’ (-2, -4) K’ (-4, 4) L’ (4, 0)

  17. 13) Triangle PQR has points P (4,-5), Q(-5, 2), and R (4,4). Perform a DILATION using a scale factor of 1/2. Key Concepts: P’ (2, -2.5) Q’ (-2.5, 1) R’ (2, 2)
