  2. Who is Poseidon • Poseidon is the god of the sea, horses, and earthquakes • Both salt and fresh water

  3. The Family of Poseidon • His father was Cronos and his mother was Rhea • His brothers are Zeus and Hades • And his sisters were Demeter, Hestia, and Hera • He was married to the goddess Amphitrite • His children were Polyphemus, Theseus, Rhodus, Herophilus, and Eryx • His nephew is Ares (god of war)

  4. Nicknames • Poseidon was called many things • One was the earthShaker for his known power of creating earthquakes • The one he was most known for wasn’t so much of a nickname but they would call him the god of violent unpredictable movement

The battle for the unknown city • At first Zeus had to choose who the unknown city • Zeus didn’t want to make his daughter mad or his brother • He made his brother mad by choosing her daughters name to name the unknown city • Poseidon got mad and threw his trident at the the acropolis • Water emerged from the ground and started a flood • After he calmed down from his rage he stopped the flood and brought the water back into the ocean

  6. Polyphemus tragedy • Polyphemus is the son of Poseidon • Odysseus blinded Poseidon’s son the cyclopsPolyphemus for no reason at all • Poseidon got really mad and trapped Odysseus in the water and stopped him from getting back home

Revenge of Amphitrite • When Poseidon had relationships or had children with other women she would seek revenge • Normally when Amphitrite would seek revenge she didn’t have to do muh • One of her victims were Medusa • When Medusa and Poseidon had an affair she turned her into an ugly gorgon • Before she was turned into a gorgon she was once a beautiful maiden • A gorgon has glaring eyes, a tongue like a snake, and really sharp teeth • But in this case she had snakes on her head as if it was her hair

  9. Fun Facts • Poseidon’s roman name was Neptune • Poseidon gave a golden carriage to Pelops with four of the fastest horses that were even faster than Ares’ horses • Cronos swallowed Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter and Hera
