  2. Utopia • An ideal community or society • Often contains a perfect socio-politico-legal system • Most cultures have some utopia that existed in the past

  3. Dystopia • Often exist in literature, in a futuristic society that has degraded and become repressive and controlled, disguised as a utopia

  4. Dystopian stories often… -are a tale of caution warning society -include a totalitarian government -include a lack of individual freedoms and expressions

  5. The Hero of a Dystopia… • Is often an outsider. Why? • His power of knowledge weakens the dystopia and he appeals to a group of people not controlled by the dystopia but does not achieve what he/she hoped
