  1. SPN 346 Lección 1 “TINK” @ LAINYORK.COM • Introducción a la fonética

  2. Introducción a la fonética • ¿Qué es la fonética? • ¿A quién le interesa? • ¿Por qué nos debe interesar a nosotros?

  3. ¿Qué es la fonética? • “Speech is coded to form words and sentences in a language. The code of speech resides in its sounds. Thus a scientific understanding of speech communication depends on knowing the sound patterns of the speech code. The scientific study of speech sounds is acoustic phonetics, which focuses especially on the sound patterns that function in language. In other words, acoustic phonetics is the language science dealing with the sound code of speech.” J.M. Pickett, Professor Emeritus, Gallaudet University

  4. ¿Qué es la fonética? • La fonética es la ciencia del habla.

  12. ¿A quién le interesa la fonética?

  13. ¿Por qué nos debe interesar la fonética? • “Mechanisms mediating accommodation to others in spoken interaction and music-making” • Sarah Hawkins (University of Cambridge) reviews evidence from the sociolinguistic and social psychology literature on human interaction, discussing aspects of plasticity of speech perception and production, especially those relevant to understanding non-standard pronunciation, and of entrainment and development of empathy in musical interaction. Are there general mechanisms that might underlie such adaptive behaviour? The overall aim is to work towards a biologically plausible account of human interaction that involves both spoken interaction and music-making. (paraphrased from the original abstract)

  14. ¿Por qué nos debe interesar la fonética? • “During the 1962 season, New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and Venezuelan shortstop Elio Chacón found themselves colliding in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would scream, “I got it! I got it!” only to run into Chacón, who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, “¡Yo la tengo! ¡Yo la tengo!” instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was instead run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words “¡Yo la tengo!” as a way to avoid outfield collisions. After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, “What the heck is a Yellow Tango?”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo_La_Tengo (Sobre cómo un grupo de rock alternativo escogió su nombre)
