  1. Trailer Analysis Powerpoint: Fish Tank

  2. Titles: Throughout the trailer, there are many titles. Most are in the blue capitalised font, part from the title from IFC Films. The titles follow through the narrative and relate to the clips shown. The title ‘Fish Tank’ has a blurred, watery effect when it is showed. Establishing shots: There are many establishing shots during the trailer. for example, 0:02, there is a shot of the council estate to establish the setting. Later at 0:59, there is a shot of the field when the location is changed during the film. These are wide or low angle shots. Titles: Towards the end of the trailer, there are titles over shots of the appropriate actors. This would influence a viewer to watch the film based on the cast as well as other elements of the trailer.

  3. Shots: There are a wide range of shots used in the trailer for different reasons. There are close ups, for example of Mia drinking and of her legs in the lake, to show the significance of the narrative, and the effect of focus on one character or object to highlight the importance. Shots: Other shots in the trailer including a high angle shot from Mia’s POV, a close up of her bending over and her walking away from a group of girls. These shots help the audience to see things from Mia’s perspective which makes the film appealing. Lighting: In terms of lighting, the use of low lighting with different glowing colours such as gold and pink, is very typical of the moods emitted by social realism films and hopes to differentiate the times of day and mental states of the characters, as well as subtle scenes.

  4. Shots: There are three types of shots mainly used in the trailer. These are close ups, medium close ups and long shots. They are mixed up within the narrative to deliver a consistent but diverse trailer and this works very effectively. Shots: Relationships in the trailer are shown through close ups and medium close ups of two or more characters. This tells the audience of the types of relationships between characters and possible narrative threads such as romances. Establishing characters: The ways in which characters are established is through medium close ups in this trailer, to make the viewer aware of a character’s significance within the narrative. They are usually doing something typical to their character stereotype, e.g. dancing.
