  3. Genesis 1 • Creation of all (1:1-2) • Creation of light/darkness (1:3-5) • Creation of heaven (1:6-8) • Creation of earth/plants (1:9-13) • Creation of luminaries (1:14-19) • Creation of sea animals/birds (1:20-23) • Creation of land animals/mankind (1:24-31)

  4. Genesis 1 • What God “said”, “created”, and “made” is emphasized in this the chapter • Lesson: we are the result of purposeful, divine creation; God is our Creator and Maker

  5. Genesis 1 • Important for our youth to remember this (Eccl. 12:1) • Keeps us from serving self (Rom. 1:25) • We must not forget our Maker (Prov. 14:31; Hos. 8:14; 1 Pet. 4:19)

  6. Genesis 1 • Our creator is worthy to be praised and worshipped (Psa. 95:6; Rev. 4:11) • Are you created in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:10, 15; 4:24)? • You can be a part of new a creation (Heb. 11:10; Rev. 22:1)

  7. Genesis 2 • Creation finalized (2:1-3) • Creation summarized (2:4-6) • Need for a living body (2:7) • Need for a home (2:8-14) • Need for work/food (2:15) • Need for a law (2:16-17) • Need for a mate/marriage (2:18-25)

  8. Genesis 2 • The divine provision for man’s body, home, work, law, and marriage are emphasized in this chapter • Lesson: we have everything we need from God; God provides for all our needs, not our wants

  9. Genesis 2 • God will provide for all our needs (Mt. 6:8, 32; Acts 2:45; Phil. 4:16,19) • Let us be content with our needs (Phil. 4:11; 1 Tim. 6:8; Heb. 13:5) • Pray for needs, not wants (Jas. 4:1-3)

  10. Genesis 3 • Sin (3:1-6) • Consequence of shame (3:7-8) • Consequence of blame (3:9-13) • Consequence of punishment (3:14-21) • Consequence of banishment (3:22-24)

  11. Genesis 3 • The consequences of sin for the man, the woman, and the devil are emphasized in this chapter • Lesson: disobedience and sin bring serious, divine consequences

  12. Genesis 3 • We need to teach responsibility and accountability (Ezek. 18; 1 Cor. 5; 2 Thess. 3) • There is a law of sowing and reaping (Gal. 6:7-9) • God provides a solution to the sin consequence (Rom. 6:23; Gen. 3:15)
