Each group member has a role • IT expert – download Audacity and set up ready for use. • Typist – have the transcript typed by end of period. • Researcher – find a podcast for the group to listen to. • Researcher – find music you could use. Find Indian names you could use. • ALL – take a tour on how to use Audacity. Research answers to questions. Add intro and outro to your transcript.

  5. A Flashing 12 is... a person with no technical inclinations – the name comes from the fact that when you walk into their house their VCR is Flashing 12:00, because they can not figure out how to program it. 

  6. A podcast is... An audio file published to the web along with a news feed, letting users subscribe to a series of shows and download them automatically. Podcasts are a collection of files, such as audio MP3 files or other media files, referenced in an RSS 2.0 news feed as enclosures.

  7. A podcaster is... the process of publishing audio files, typically in MP3 format, along with news feeds so that listeners can download them and listen to them on their computer or portable digital audio player. The name comes from iPod and broadcasting. Podcasts took hold in August of 2004.

  11. TYPIST: Transcript... Mr. Schiff: For nearly a century, the FBI has been fighting the hard fight. The Historian at the FBI is Dr. John Fox... Dr. Fox: "Congress, in 1908, stopped the Secret Service from doing investigations and the Department of Justice was left with a problem. It needed an investigative force and so Charles Bonaparte, the Attorney General, created one that summer." Mr. Schiff: It was July 26th, 1908. Dr. Fox says initially, the responsibilities of this new agency were varied... Dr. Fox: "You had a mix of criminal violations; there were some national security concerns."   16. Audio Recording Tips • The location should relatively quiet. • Articulate words so listeners do not have to strain to hear you. • Provide accurate information. Do not ramble, get to the point. Include quality content. Short and snappy answers. • Length of podcast (suggest no more than 3 minutes) • Provide original content to attract listeners. • Think about ways that you can make your podcast unique and stand out from similarly themed podcasts.   19. Possible Questions: Arranged Marriages • How did you become engaged? • Did you protest against your arranged marriage? Why or why not? • Do you think you/they are a good match? • Should marriages always be approved of by family and/or society? • Should marriages outwith your own caste be acceptable if you are in love? • Should life partners be chosen on their ability to move a bride up a caste? Or by the dowry offered? • What are your thoughts on love? Do you believe in love at first sight? If you had a choice what would you prefer? • Do you know how many love marriages there are in India? • Do you expect this marriage to last forever? Are there many ‘arranged marriage’ divorces? • If you were living in another country do you think you would maintain the same marriage values as your parents? Will you arrange a marriage for your children?
