Databox Model Overview • No control head • Will not accept a control head • 5 Tone Databox have • the GM340 feature set, but no features that require keys • MPT Databox have • the GM1280 feature set, but no features that require navigation keys, keypad or display • MAP27 capable (requires MAP27 Expansion Head) • Data rates up to 9600 baud • Via rear accessory connector or Expansion Head

  7. Databox Model Overview - cont • Databox are pre-programmed for basic data applications • Ignition sense enabled (do not disable this or you won’t be able to turn the radio on!) • Emergency wake up • Data PTT • Flat Tx and Rx audio

Databox Configurations • Databox (or any mobile model) can be connected to an external or internal modem • Dealer can buy a modem from any vendor and connect it external to the Databox, via the audio lines on the rear accessory connector • Dealer can buy a modem Expansion Head from a Motorola Application Partner and connect it to the front of the Databox, equivalent to where the control head normally fits

How to Turn the Databox On! • The Databox doesn’t have a control head, so how do you turn it on? • By connecting ignition sense (pin 10) on accessory connector to B+ • How do you programme the Databox? • Connect ignition sense to B+ on the accessory connector programming cable (RKN4083), or • Connect a spare control head to the radio • The control head won’t work, but the radio can be turned on/off and programmed through the mic socket (with RKN4081 or GTF374B)

  12. Expansion Head • Fits on the front of the radio transceiver instead of the control head • Control head can be connected in remote mount • Used to allow communication with the outside world (eg MAP27), and/or to add additional radio functionality (option board connected to PROIS)

Expansion Head - cont 2 • The Expansion Head is designed to receive an option board • Expansion Head option board is a different shape from the option board that fits inside the transceiver (although the function can be the same). • Both option boards connect to PROIS. • Only ONE option board can be fitted in the radio at any time (either in the Expansion Head or inside the transceiver).

Expansion Head - cont 3 • The Expansion Head option board • Can do all the functionality of the internal option board • And in addition has • More space for additional circuitry • The ability to connect to the outside world – via 1 x 9-pin and 1 x 25-pin D type connector • Expansion Head (without an option board fitted) is only sold to Application Partners. • Application Partners sell their option boards pre-fitted in the Expansion Head to dealers.

  16. Expansion Head - cont 4 • The Expansion Head (with option board fitted) can be fitted to any model of Professional Series mobile • Remove the control head • Fit the Expansion Head in place of the control head • Connect the control head in remote mount

Option Boards • Option boards connect to PROIS, which provides a window in to the radio software, to allow additional functionality to be added to the radio. • Customer specific requirements • Niche markets • Option boards can be fitted • Either inside the transceiver, • or in the Expansion Head • Only one option board can be fitted at a time • Option boards are enabled/disabled • In the CPS, and/or • Via a programmable button on the radio

Option Boards - cont 2 • Motorola only sells a few core option boards • MAP27 • GCOB (Generic Control Option Board) – contains FLASH PROM for Application Partners to programme • Application Partners • design and develop option boards for the market; • Write software and programme the GCOB for customer specific requirements • Sell their option boards to dealers • Dealers fit internal option board or option board Expansion Head at time of installation, or afterwards.

MAP27 Expansion Head • For use with GM1280 and MPT Databox • MAP27 software is not in the GM640 or GM660 • Radios need firmware version R02.00.17 or later to use MAP27 • Fits on the front of the radio in place of the control head • Control head can be fitted in remote mount • Provides an interface between the radio and the outside world • RS232 voltages • Standard connectors • 1 x 9-pin & 1 x 25-pin D type connectors • Telco connector to put GM1280 control head in remote mount • Sold as an accessory through the distribution centre and AAD.
