  1. Master thesis proposal “Research on impact of future fuels” • Background • As is known, fossil fuels used in transport today are limited. A lot of effort is given into the development of other energy sources such as electricity, hydrogen, etc. Unfortunately, all alternatives energy sources have serious disadvantages especially for commercial vehicles (truck, train, airplanes), such as radius, explosion, etc. The solution are future fuels in which liquid fuels are obtained from infinite sources. These future fuels will be directly derived from solar energy and converted into liquid hydrocarbons such as ethanol or other clean fuels. • These kind of fuels are already available on the market and therefore the impact of these future fuels can be investigated. Which fuel is most suitable? How does such a fuel perform under different conditions (part load, full load, EGR)? Are there any engine modifications necessary? To gain more knowledge about future fuels it is important to get more understanding in all the effects and important parameters to design the optimal fuel. • Objectives • Study on future fuels • Perform fuel measurements • Analyze obtained data and results • Suggest the most suitable fuel • Report your findings Test setup future fuels Structure Ethanol Contact / further information Ir.
