  2. IVHS Mission The mission of the Illinois Virtual High School is to use new and emerging technologies that expand the boundaries of space and time to provide Illinois students and their teachers with increased equity and access to the highest quality educational opportunities.

  3. IVHS Purposes • The Illinois Virtual High School (IVHS) should be designed to serve three primary purposes: • Assure equitable access to rich and varied learning opportunities for Illinois students, with emphasis on curricular areas needed to ensure that all students can meet the Illinois Learning Standards and succeed in higher education and the workplace; • Expand high-quality professional development opportunities for Illinois teachers and other educators; and • Support schools in integrating technology into teaching and learning.

  4. EIU Proposed Goals Goal #1Increase participation of schools in underrepresented areas of East Central Illinois – collaborative planning and professional development activities. Goal #2More and improved instruction available on IVHS – building capacity and sharing quality, TLT Resource Center/Teacher Academy Goal #3Provide support for IVHS teachers and students while preparing future IVHS teachers – mentoring, support roles, practicum, tutoring opportunities.

EIU Proposed Goals & Objectives Goal #1Increase participation of schools in underrepresented areas of East Central Illinois Objective #1-1Build regional awareness (among Regional Offices of Education, K-12 School Districts, Building Administrators, Teachers, Counselors, Parents, and Students) of IVHS opportunities through presentations and workshops

EIU Proposed Goals & Objectives Goal #1Increase participation of schools in underrepresented areas of East Central Illinois Objective #1-2Establish a Teachers Academy and/or TLT Resource Center centered at EIU for P-16 community. Build a “virtual presence” for the development and delivery of professional development (both online and face-to-face) to overcome time issues and geographic barriers using the latest available learning technologies, building upon the ICN infrastructure available and modeling best practices.

EIU Proposed Goals & Objectives Goal #2More and improved instruction available on IVHS Objective #2-1Provide regional in-service opportunities for facilitating on-line instruction and course development aligned with Illinois Learning Standards. Objective #2-2Provide communication vehicles to improve online learning and instruction.

  8. EIU Proposed Goals & Objectives Goal #3Provide support for IVHS teachers and students while preparing future IVHS teachers. Objective #3-1Provide pre-service teachers (graduate and undergraduate) with opportunities to be involved in IVHS. - Prepare future teachers for online teaching and learning environments, practicum experiences, mentoring, and tutoring.
