  5. Geography • North East of England • Population of 558,386* in 240,350* dwellings • 41% of our wards in the worst 10% nationally • Unemployment rate almost twice the national average • 12% of all UK COMAH sites

History • Attending Emergencies since 1974 • Extensive Schools Education programme for over 20 years • Started fitting smoke alarms in houses in early 1990s • Engaging with young firesetters in the home since 1997 • Over 200,000 Home Visits since 2003 • Youth Engagement Activities since 2004 • Established a Volunteer Network in 2008 • Commissioned Services Team established 2014

  7. So What? • Reduced Accidental Dwelling Fires by 67% over the last 10 years • Proportionate reduction in associated deaths and injuries • 95% smoke alarm ownership • Reduced all fires by over 70% over the last 10 years
