Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA 2002 NORCECA Continental Volleyball Confederation Report By Mr. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, NORCECA’s President The year 2002 has been a very active and fruitful year for the North, Central American and Caribbean Continental Volleyball Confederation, NORCECA. Developing a very active calendar of competitions and events, NORCECA was able to restructure its commissions, hosting their annual meeting as scheduled, as well as its Executive Committee and Board of Administration Meeting. A progressive achievement and development have been successfully obtained during the year 2002, not only with the organization of Regional, Continental, Intercontinental and International Tournaments and Championships, but also, very important aspects have been obtain in its management.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Commissions Meetings During the month of February, NORCECA’s Beach Volleyball Commission, Refereeing, Sport Organizing, Medical, Technical and Coaches Commission, Press, Finances and Marketing Commission, held their annual meeting with an extraordinary enthusiasm and results. All meetings were developed in accordance with FIVB Regulations, receiving in each case a full report from each FIVB Commissions, in order to properly implement FIVB decisions, optimizing the efficiency of NORCECA’s Working Commissions.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Executive Committee / Board of Administration The Executive Committee / Board of Administration Meeting were held in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on April 27-28, 2002. With the presence of all Executive and Board Members, during the opening ceremony of this important activity, a welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Jose Joaquin Puello, President of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee and Organizing Committee of the XIV Pan-American Sports Games, Santo Domingo 2003. Important aspects were debated during the Executive Committee and Board of Administration Meetings. President’s activities, decisions to be implemented from the XXVII FIVB World Congress of Seville, Spain, NORCECA’s transition, financial situation, NORCECA’s Commissions Report and the FIVB Regional Development Centre Report were presented.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Executive Committee / Board of Administration An updated report on the organization of the XIX Central American Sport Games, San Salvador, 2002, and the XIV Pan-American Sport Games, Santo Domingo 2003 were also presented. NORCECA’s Competition Schedule for the year 2003 was updated. The final system for zonal events qualification to continental events was discussed, the restructure of continentals zone such as AFECAVOL for Central America and CAZOVA for the Caribbean were alson presented. The strategy for the participation of NORCECA’s affiliated National Federations in the XXVIII FIVB World Congress of Buenos Aires, Argentina was established, as well as, the unanimous support from all National Federations affiliated to NORCECA, for the reelection of Dr. Ruben Acosta Hernandez, as President of FIVB.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Administration With 35 affiliated National Federations a great effort has been made to establish an adequated communication and constant flow of information, in order for NORCECA to support the activities of its National Federations. Regional, Continental, Intercontinental and International events received a decisive support from NORCECA’s Staff, Technical and Support Personal, in order to ensure the organization of events, according to FIVB Regulations. NORCECA’s headquarter has been established in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Professional Staff have been engaged. An Executive Director, Administrative Director, Internal Auditor, Accountant, Technical Director, Secretariat and Coordinators, conform the support personal and Staff of NORCECA. Also, a professional continental Press Officer has been contracted with the financial support of FIVB. Within the restructure of NORCECA, an organizational and operational chart is now in place. Following the guidance of Dr. Ruben Acosta Hernandez, FIVB’s President, NORCECA’s profile has been launched at a continental level and important contacts have been made with potentials sponsors.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Administration NORCECA’s news, bulletins and press releases were distributed at a continental and worldwide level during 2002, promoting NORCECA’s events and activities. Establishing a close working relation with the media, major newspapers of our continent created the necessary awareness during the organization of Regional, Continental, Intercontinental and International events. Radio stations and TV channels also broadcasted our majors and most important events. Following President Acosta guidance, NORCECA, as a FIVB institution and representing FIVB in our continent, will continue to implement FIVB’s Constitution, Administrative, Financial and Code of Conduct, as well as the enforcement of FIVB decisions.

Excellent local spectators assistance. Good organization. Local TV Broadcasting and VIS System were implemented. Final Results: 1st Cuba 2nd Dominicana 3rd Canada 4th Mexico

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Defense, Service, Reception and Libero Technical Seminar Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on July 2-7, 2002 Directed by Prof. Susan Gozansky, FIVB International Instructor. A total of 30 Coaches from Mexico, Peru, Italy, Netherlands Antilleans and Dominican Republic took part in this important seminar.

A total of 20 students from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Aruba and Dominican Republic took part in this continental course.

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA Attack & Middle Blocker Players Technical Seminar Held in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on August 2-9, 2002, directed by Prof. Toon Gerbrand, FIVB International Instructor and by Prof. Bas Van de Goor, from Holland. A total of 22 Coaches from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Peru, Italy, Netherlands Antilleans and Dominican Republic took part in this important seminar

Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe De Voleibol, NORCECA XXVIIIFIVB WORLD CONGRESS BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA SEPTEMBER 21-22-23, 2002 The Congress was held from the 21-23 of September. The Presidential elections took place on September 23, with the reelection of Dr. Ruben Acosta Hernandez, as President of FIVB. The Board of Administration and Executive Committee for the next 4 years was also elected by the Assembly. NORCECA played a very important role in the future plans of the FIVB. Accompanying President Acosta, Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, President of NORCECA, was reelected Executive Vice-President of FIVB, and was reelected in the Finances Commission and designated in the World Plan Vision 2008 Commission and Sport Event Council.
