  7. Reminder of Jesus’ Call and Commission… Matthew 28:18–20 (NLT) Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

  8. Reminder of Jesus’ Call and Commission… • The Command… “make disciples” • Connected to The Command is the participle “go” • Making disciples includes 1)going, 2)baptizing, 3)teaching to obey all things Jesus taught. • This speaks to and requires initiative.

  9. The “Golden Link”? • It represents God’s initiative toward humanity.

  10. The “Golden Link”? • Revelation of God’s mind and truth (Scriptures) is dependent upon God initiating revelation of Himself. Whether it was to Adam, Abraham or the writers of Scripture. • 2 Peter 1:21 (NASB) for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

  11. The “Golden Link”? • 2. Redemption of humanity (salvation in forgiveness of sin) is dependent upon God’s initiative. • Psalm 14:2–3 (NLT) The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. 3 But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one! • Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  12. The “Golden Link”? • 3. Rescue of humanity’s plight included Jesus being sent on mission to seek out so as to save. • Luke 19:10 (NASB) “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

  13. The “Golden Link” • It represents God’s initiative toward humanity. • If He did not we could not. • Jesus commands that we make disciples by going. We must initiate.

  14. Our Missional Responsibility… • Going, being sent, taking initiative to go toward those who need the hope and salvation of Jesus are fundamental to our responsibility as Jesus’ disciples. • It characterizes God and His kingdom ways.

  15. John 20:21 (NLT) Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Acts 13:2–4 (NLT) One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” 3 So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. 4 So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit.

  16. 2 Corinthians 5:18–20 (NLT) And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

  19. Disturb Us Lord Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,When our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little,When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possessWe have lost our thirst for the waters of life;Having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternityAnd in our efforts to build a new earth,We have allowed our vision of the new Heaven to dim.

  20. Disturb Us Lord Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seasWhere storms will show your mastery;Where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask You to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future in strength, courage, hope and love. This we ask in the name of our captain, Who is Jesus Christ.

  21. The Challenge … Our Prayer Jesus, I want you as the center of my life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit I will listen to you and do what you say at any time, in any place, and at any price.
