  6. Our history Its history dates back more than one thousand years. Soon after the original settlement of the magyars in the least years of the 9th century, the people living here had their own church. During the mongol invasion of Hungary in 1241-42 the church, as well as the settlement known as Nánásmonostora, was completely destroyed. Until the 16th century it was a medium sized feudal village with not more than 1000 people. Hajdúnánás is one of the six Hajdú towns It was in Korpona on 12th Decemer 1605 that the Heyducks, foot-soldiers in the army of István Bocskai, Prince of Transylvania, were granted privileges of nobility and permitted to settle down by the prince. The six old towns of County Hajdú were in a particular military community inside the nation. They preserved their independence attained with sword in hand.
