  1. Sometimes, it’s not easy to know why you should be good. There may be no reward for it. Things might even get more difficult for you. You might even get into trouble for doing the right thing. That’s why God sends us his Holy Spirit, to help us to be good even when it is difficult – because God knows that to be a good person, is to be a happy person, and God will be with you. Why should I be good?

  2. To know what the Gifts of the Spirit, and the Fruits of the Spirit are • To explain how God helps us to be good • To evaluate how much God helps us to be good. The Gifts and Fruits of the Spirit

  3. What do the 7 gifts of the spirit do for us? • What are the 7 gifts of the spirit? Draw the diagram & write them on. • What sort of person gets the 9 fruits of the spirit? What do they become like? • 5. Draw & label the 9 fruits of the spirit • **Why is it easier for someone with the Holy Spirit to become a good person? • The Holy Spirit helps us to live a good life, so we can become more like God, and have God with us. • At baptism, Christians receive “7 gifts of the spirit” (like getting 7 virtues for free!) - wisdom, understanding, knowledge, right judgment, fortitude, worship, respect of God. These free virtues teach us how to act in a godly way. • If someone chooses to learn from the Spirit how to act in a godly way, they will start to show the 9fruits of the spirit which is the personality of God - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self control. They will become more like God/ Jesus. • So the 7 gifts of the Spirit teach us how to act in a godly way – and acting in God’s waygives us the 9 fruits of the Spirit, so we become more like God. Wisdom 7 Gifts of H.S Fruits of H.S

  4. So this is how you become a good person... Explain it to your partner, then draw the diagram, from memory if you can! 7 Gifts of the Spirit Act in this godly way 9 FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT

  5. What fruit (of the Holy Spirit) am I?

  6. Do you think this is true? Bad person Doing good things is not part of their personality They can’t be relied on to do good things, although occasionally they might do something good. If they do good things, it will probably be for selfish reasons Their character does not show the 9 fruits of the spirit very much Good person Doing good things is part of their character They can be relied on to do good things, even when it might not be to their advantage Their character: shows the 9 fruits of the spirit How can you tell the difference between a good person, and a bad person doing some good things?

  7. There are two boys at a party. Tom has the virtue (good habit) of treating others with respect and dignity. Jim on the other hand, lacks this virtue, and has the bad habit of seeing girls only for sex. An attractive girl walks into a party. Tom sees this girl as attractive, but also that she is a person he respects. Jim sees her just as a bit of fun. They both chat with her nicely, but only Tom is genuinely interested in her - Jim’s interest in her is limited to her looks. His niceness and interest is just a lie. When the girls breaks the stiletoe on her shoe, both of them help her to sit down and check she is ok, but only Tom is actually concerned. They are behaving in the exact same way, but morally, they are totally different people. One is virtuous, with a good habit of respect & care. The other isn’t. Can you think of another situation like this? Jim Tom Explain why being moral, & having virtues & values, makes a big difference to what you are like as a person.
