  3. Music and the Individual • Everyone has their own fingerprint and it makes two people different. • Think about your own likes and dislikes. • How you spend your time and your taste in food is very different from others also.

  4. Music and your childhood • Most cultures expose music to people when they are young. • Do you remember any songs from your childhood? • Did you sing the ABC song to learn the alphabet? • Or the child’s game “Ring around the Rosey”

  5. Song Kye Kye Kule • Here is the song “Kye Kye Kule” • This is from the African nation of Ghana. • Pay attention to the song’s form. • Form- the structure and design of a composition, incorporating repetition, contrast, unity, and variety. • You will also learn about the structure of the song.

  6. Kye Kye Kule • Call and response- question and answer pattern in which a group responds to a leader • Who sings the call part of the song? • What is the mood of the song? • How does this fit the way children learn songs?

  7. Music Preferences • Do we still listen to the same music that we were listened to 5 years ago? • Music is in a constant change. • How do you differ from family members with your choice of music? • Music is all about identity!

  8. Chapter 1 Project • List your top 10 favorite songs • List in this order: Title, performer, genre, writer Ex: Crawling Linkin Park Alternative -Mark Wakefield Due Friday August 24 at the beginning of class
