  1. MSRATF Update to TSS(Modeling SPS and RAS Ad Hoc Task Force)ActivitiesMay, 2014 Joe Seabrook Puget Sound Energy, Inc.

  2. MSRATF Documents • WECC web site for documents: WECC > Committees > Standing Committees > PCC > TSS > Documents > MSRATF Documents

  3. MSRATF Meetings Subjects • Relays • RAS • Contingency Definitions • Breaker Node Topology • Modeling Sequence Component Networks • Include the means to exchange between simulation programs - for all models • All data – provided and maintained by the sanctionable entity, TO, TP, PC, TOP

  4. RAS Subgroup Thong Trinh • Generic RAS model & Common Format • Implemented in PowerWorld last fall • GE/WECC contract to implement in 3 phases • To provide Phase 1 this fall (RAS) • Seeking an agreement with Siemens-PTI • Thong and Eleanor Ewry are testing the PowerWorld implementation • Bug fixes and improvements • Want others to test

  5. RAS Subgroup Others TSS is requesting members to provide their RAS descriptions and models - Tracy Colstrip transmission operator continues developing an ATR specification PAC is using generic RAS for Bridger BC Hydro is working with PowerWorld to attempt to use generic RAS 5

  6. Relays Subgroup Amos Ang • Developing a differential relay model specification • Will submit it to MVWG for approval in June; then to TSS for approval in August • Is triggered off the contingency description, not unbalanced line flows • Node Breaker is required for bus differential • Will begin developing generic model requirements for generator relays • Beginning with GP1 and GP2

  7. Node Breaker Subgroup Jonathan Young • Approved Node-Breaker White Paper • Writing a paper on Integration of BCCS and WSM from the TO, GO, TOP, TP, PC perspective • Includes Node Breaker modeling and Node Breaker bus view • Will become an SRWG document • Principle: Facility owners model and maintain their own equipment (sanctionable)

  8. Node Breaker Subgroup Jonathan Young TSS Motion: In the Long ID use Label from WSM for each generator having a Label. • Have “WSM_Mapping_GE_V9_May1.xlsx” from Slaven Kincic. • Labels for 95% of generation MW • TSS direction [ Explore changes to contingency definitions and relay models (bus / branch) ]

  9. Modeling Unbalanced Networks TSS Motion: Include unbalanced sequence network data in WECC base cases. • MOD-032 requiring fault data approved by FERC on May 1. • Requirements R1. July 1, 2015; Data R2. July 1, 2016 • Some data also needed for GMD studies • Can do category C & coordinate with neighbors • Performs 1ϕ faults with decaying currents • See “Export ASPEN Sequence Data To PTI WECC Base Case”, May 14, 2013
