  2. Rounding • Rounding is the process of changing some digits to zeros in order to increase or decrease the value of a number. • It seems complicated but I promise it is not.

  3. Example : • Round 5,784 to the nearest hundreds. • Step 1: Underline the digit that is in the hundreds place, in this case 7. • 5,784

  4. Step 2: Find out the value of this digit. 5,784 • As the digit 7 is in the hundreds place, its value is 700.

  5. Step 3: Draw a number line and locate the next hundreds. 5,700 5,800

  6. Step 4: Observe the digit that is in the right side of the digit you are rounding. 5, 7 8 4

  7. If the digit is : • 5,6,7,8 or 9 the number goes up to the next hundreds. In this case to 5,800

  8. If the digit is : • 4,3,2,or 1 the number remains in the same hundred. In this case 5,700.

  9. In this case as the digit 8 is the digit to the right side of the digit you are rounding. 5,784 • The number goes up to. 5,800
