  3. What QUALITIES Does Readers’ Workshop HAVE? • TIME • CHOICE • RESPONSE • COMMUNITY

  4. TIME & CHOICE • TIME • We will have large blocks of time to read. • The time will be uninterrupted reading time. • The more time we spend reading, the better readers we become. Page 4 • CHOICE • You pick your own reading material. • I help you make good choices. • We apply general lessons to EVERY book that we have chosen to read. Page 4

RESPONSE & COMMUNITY • RESPONSE • You will share about your book when you are finished. • You will have individual conferences with the teacher. • You will share how the general lessons we cover apply to your particular book. EXPECTATIONS – Students and Teacher • STUDENTS will… • Come prepared to read EVERYDAY. • Conference with teacher. • Work on daily lesson. • READ during reading time: • No pretending. • No passes. • No distractions. • Teachers will… • Monitor reading. • Conference with students. • Help students find books. • Evaluate daily lessons.

HOW WILL YOU BE GRADED? • Preparation – having a book with you EVERYDAY. • Conferences – discussions with teachers about what you are reading and the terms we’ve covered. • Mini-lessons – turning in the assignments given to you during the mini-lesson at the end of class. • Book Reports/Book Talks – filling out the paperwork and discussing the book with others. • Completion of Reading Logs – do the paperwork!

  10. PREDICTION EXIT CARD • Prediction – make an educated guess based on the information you have • In a well-written paragraph, write how YOU predict READERS’ WORKSHOP will work for YOU. • Grades will be evaluated on the mechanics of your writing, not your prediction.
