  2. Black Panther Party • Founded October 1966 Oakland, Calif • Huey Newton and Bobby Seale • Practiced militant self-defense of communities vs. U.S. gov’t • 1st organization in U.S. history to militantly struggle for ethnic minority and working class emancipation!

  3. Fred Hampton (Leader BPP in Chicago) • Lead 5 different programs on West Side • BPP created medical center • Door to door health service which test for sickle cell anemia • BPP reached out to local gangs, lure away from crime and into a class war

  4. BPP Platform & Program • We want freedom. Power to determine destiny of our Black Comm • We want full employment of our pep • We want to end robbery by the Capitalist of our Black Comm • We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings • We want education

BPP Building Coalitions • "We will continue to have working alliances with other groups like Los Siete de la Raza, a group supporting the seven Latino brothers who are accused of killing a cop in San Francisco. Alliances with groups like Los Siete have worked out a lot better than coalitions with white liberals because the brown American people are suffering from the same things black American people are.   14. Stokley Carmichael • Former chairmen of Student Non-violent Coordinating Comm (SNCC) • Coined the term “Black Power” • For Black Liberation Movement. Felt whites can’t relate to AA experience and had an intmidating effect on AA

Edgar Hoover begin the counterintelligence program to break up BPP, Brown Berets. • Informants infiltrated the organizations • Operation was to stop the spreading of unity within organizations and throughout the U.S. • Other gps targeted (SCLC, Chavez, American Indian Movement)

  17. Dec 4, 1969 Hampton Assassignation • FBI informant located Hampton whereabouts. CPD raid West Side Apt • Murdering Hampton (2 in head, 1 arm and shoulder) • Hampton 21 yrs • According to Finding in grand jury, 90 bullets fired inside apt. (1-2 bullets came from Mark Clark other BPP killed in raid)
