  2. Rotarians Want to Go, but… • Making international service happen involves travel, which can be expensive. • Travel costs can’t be included in DDF Matching Grants. As a Result… • Drives up the overall out-of-pocket costs of Club projects. • Clubs are less inclined to participate in international projects.

  3. Rotary Partnering with American Airlines • Utilize UA’s Mileage Plus Charity Miles Program. • Donate ‘soon to expire’ unused Miles and re-assign them for Rotary Service Projects. • Any Rotarian or friends of Rotarians can donate miles. • Can collect Miles like collecting donations for a fundraiser.

  4. Rotary Miles Program-Where Do We Start? • Remember, we’re all about tracking, so first assign a Club or Project Rotary Miles Program Manager (RMPM) to account for this. • Program Manager will be your Club’s contact person for RI’s Travel Service.

  5. Rotary Miles Program- What’s The RMPM’s Job? • Share the Purpose of your Club’s Project/Program. • Number of tickets needed & anticipated travel dates. • Provide time frame for collecting Miles donations. • Gather, Report & Retain Donations to RITS & Club • Send Donation Summary Form to RITS once goal is achieved. • Record travel tickets received & Report them to RITS.

  6. Rotary Miles Program-Required Miles for Economy Round Trip • Domestic US 25,000 • To CentralAmerica, Peru & Venzuela 35,000 • To Europe 50,000 • To South America 50,000 • To Asia Pacific 60,000

  8. Rotary Miles Program-Program Manager’s Summary Form

  9. Rotary Miles Program-Things you need to know • United Airlines Miles only qualify. • However, Continental Miles will soon qualify due to merger with United Airlines. • Miles donations are NOT tax deductible. • Pick travel times carefully. Popular travel times may require standard award tickets, which require about 50% more miles.
