  1. W a n t t o g o G r e e n ?Go Geo-! Geothermal Energy “The Geothermal Greatnesses”: Ms. Cote

  2. What is Geothermal Energy? • Renewable means it is able to be restored or replenished. Renewable energy is a source of energy that can never be exhausted. Geothermal Energy is renewable! • Geothermal Energy is energy from the earth itself. The temperature of the earth is used in many ways. One of these ways includes a heating/cooling system such as the system used by the UMF Education Center. • How Does it Work? Step 1: Heat from the Earth is used. Step 2: A well/(s) is put underground Step 3: Pipes to and from the well hold water and the water is brought to the constant temperature of the ground. Step 4: The water is brought up from the well to the pipes. Step 5: Mechanical system delivers the heat directly for its intended use.

  3. History of Geothermal Energy! • 1904 The first dry steam geothermal power plant was built in Laderello in Tuscany, Italy. The Larderello plant today provides power to about 1 million households. • 1972 Deep well drilling technology improvements led to deeper reservoir drilling and to access to more resources. • 1994 California Energy became the world’s largest geothermal company through its acquisition of Magma Power. • 2006 The U.S. geothermal industry became a $1.5 billion a year business that involved electricity generation and thermal energy in direct use such as indoor heating, greenhouses, food drying, aquaculture.

  4. How can Geothermal Energy be Used? • Heating & Cooling Systems (UMF Ed. Ctr.) • Raising Plants in Greenhouses • Drying Crops • Heating Water at Fish Farms • Pasteurizing Milk

  5. E l b a w e n e r I have chosen to place a geothermal system herebecause it requires much land to be dug up to insert wells into the ground. There are not as many treeshere to be cut down and there are fewer homes thanthe city so people’s properties will not be ruined.

  6. Why Should You Use Geothermal Energy? • Geothermal energy is renewable. It is a source that will always be present. • Geothermal energy does not involve the burning of fossil fuels. It does not pollute out environment. • The installation process of a geothermal system can be expensive but it pays off in the long run. • Renewable energy is a gift. Geothermal energy is one of these many gifts. We should you it, if not for ourselves, than for the environment.

  7. Geothermal Energy • Our planet is experiencing Global Climate Change. • By using renewable energy we will be producing less of the pollution (CO2) that is causing our climate to change and warm. • Elbawener will greatly benefit by using geothermal energy in their country. We feel that the rest of the world should highly consider using the wonderful gift of renewable energy that our world has to offer. • Think about it. Take action!
