  2. Background • Purpose of data collection: PHOF • Measured vs. self-report data • Why use the Active People Survey? Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  3. Mean height by age and sex; HSE 20062010 and APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1 Assessing the validity of self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  4. Mean weight by age and sex; HSE 20062010 and APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1 Assessing the validity of self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  5. Relative difference in height by age and sex; measured HSE 20062010 compared to self-reported APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1 Adjusting the self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  6. Relative difference in weight by age and sex; measured HSE 20062010 compared to self-reported APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1 Adjusting the self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  7. Prevalence of excess weight (BMI ≥25kg/m2) by age, measured HSE 20062010, unadjusted and adjusted APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1; Males Adjusting the self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  8. Prevalence of excess weight (BMI ≥25kg/m2) by age, measured HSE 20062010, unadjusted and adjusted APS6 Q2 to APS7 Q1; Females Adjusting the self-report data Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  9. Accessing the LA data www.phoutcomes.info Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  10. Accessing the LA data www.phoutcomes.info Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  11. Accessing the LA data • Supporting indicators available on PHE Obesity website (noo.org.uk) • Underweight • Healthy weight • Overweight • Obesity • Adjusted and unadjusted data • Weighted and unweighted sample size Measuring adult BMI using the Active People Survey

  12. Future work • Continued checks on validity of APS data • Does ‘error’ in self-reported height and weight differ by ethnic group or socioeconomic status etc? • What effect does BMI have on self-reported height and weight? • Requests already received for severe obesity prevalence (BMI ≥40kg/m2) • Examine prevalence by other variables (e.g. NS-SeC, ethnicity, LLTI, disability, physical activity) • Investigation of local authority variation • Age-specific rates • Characteristics of areas with high/low prevalence • Possibility of Sport England producing modelled MSOA data • Any other suggestions??
