  1. Sin Shall We Continue In It?

  2. Romans 6:1-2 • What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

  4. What Sin Does! • Sin Hardens and Deceives! • Heb. 3:12-13 • Harden = to render stubborn • Duet. 21:18-21 • Ex. 32:9; Acts 7:51-52 • Deceive = deluded, to mislead the mind or judgment of • 1 Cor. 6:9; 15:33; Gal. 6:7; 2 Tim. 3:13; Tit. 3:3

What Sin Does! • Sin LADENS! • Laden = load, burden, overcome by anxiety • 2 Tim. 3:6; Matt. 11:28-29; Isa. 1:2-7 • Sin burdens those involved and innocent people! • It causes unnecessary loads in life: • Shame! • Health problems! • Destroys peace and harmony, unity, families and marriages! • Brings burdens on the church! • Souls are lost! • Ezek. 18:4, 20

What Sin Does! • Sin HOLDS! • Prov. 5:22; Ps. 9:15; 7:15-16; Prov. 26:27; 28:10 • It is a powerful force that holds one hostage: • Matt. 13:22; 1 Tim. 6:9 • Many are held hostage to: • Drug & alcohol addiction! • Sexual immorality! • Gambling! • Pornography! • Political “correctness”! • Liberalism! • False doctrine and false teachers! • Matt. 7:15-16; 1 Tim. 4:1-7; 2 Tim. 3:1-6

  7. What Sin Does! • Sin RULES! • John 8:34; 2 Pet. 2:17-19; Rom. 6:4-18 • Many let sin rule them! • They serve it! • They are controlled by it! • They teach, promote and live in it! • We must be servants of God! • Rom. 6:20-23

  8. What Sin Does! • Sin OVERTAKES! • Gal. 6:1-2 • Overtaken = caught, taken before he is aware, seized on without warning • Must try to support the fallen brother! • 1 Thess. 5:14 • Rom. 15:1; 2 Thess. 3:14-15; Jas. 5:19-20

  9. What Sin Does! • Sin CONSUMES! • Num. 16:26; Job 24:19 • Consume = to waste, to spend, come to ruin, perish, to destroy! • We can be consumed by bitterness! • Gal. 5:15, 1 Cor. 3:1-3 • Can be consumed with lusts of the flesh! • Jas. 4:1-3 • If so, we are an enemy of God – Jas. 4:4

What Sin Does! • Sin DESTROYS LOVE! • Matt. 24:11-12 • The love for God wanes! • Because of persecution – vs. 10 • Because of false teachers & error – vs. 11 • Because of apathy – vs. 12 • Love for family, friends and loved ones fade! • Love for the Truth is lost! • Jn. 8:31-36, 44 • Galatians – Gal. 3:1-3; 5:4-7 • Other Christians – 2 Tim. 3:13-17; 4:1-4, 10

  11. What Sin Does! • Sin DESTROYS THE CONSCIENCE! • 1 Tim. 4:2 • Conscience defined… 1. The inner sense of what is right or wrong in one's conduct or motives, impelling one toward right action: to follow the dictates of conscience. 2. The complex of ethical and moral principles that controls or inhibits the actions or thoughts of an individual. 3. An inhibiting sense of what is prudent: I'd eat another piece of pie but my conscience would bother me. • To violate your conscience is sinful! • Rom. 14:23; Tit. 1:15 • Continual violation of conscience will result in destroying it!

What Sin Does! • Sin DESTROYS GOOD! • Eccl. 9:18; Prov. 11:1-11; Prov. 14:34 • Example: Paul the persecutor! • Gal. 1:23 • Paul remembered his days as a persecutor! • Gal. 1:13-14; Acts 22:3-5; 26:9-15; 1 Tim. 1:13 • The Jews tried to destroy influence and work of Paul! • Acts 13:1-12; 42-46; • The faith of some was “shipwrecked”! • 1 Tim. 1:18-20

  13. What Sin Does! • Sin brings SHAME & REPROACH! • Hosea 4:7 • On nations! • Prov. 14:34 • On families! • Prov. 19:26-27; 28:7 • On a good name! • Prov. 22:1; 10:1; 15:20 • On the Lord’s church! • 1 Tim. 3:5-7; Phil. 3:17-19; 1 Cor. 15:33-34; 1 Cor. 5:1-13

  14. What Sin Does! • Sin brings DEATH! • Rom. 6:23 • This has been so from the beginning! • Gen. 2:16-17; cf. Gen. 3:1-19; 5:1-5 • Rom. 5:12-21 • Christ warned those of His day! • Jn. 8:21-24

The Sinners Doom… • “go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched” • Mark 9:43-48 • “the lake that burns with fire and brimstone” • Revelation 21:8 • “everlasting Destruction” • 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 • “the Lake of Fire” • Revelation 19:20; 20:10-15 • “everlasting punishment” • Mark 25:46 • - “everlasting” =“eternal” (Gk. aionios)

  22. What Sin Will Cost you… • It will take you farther than you wanted or intended to go! • It will keep you longer than you wanted to stay! • It will cost you more than you wanted to pay!

  23. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:7-10 (NKJV)

  24. “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” 1 John 2:1-3 (NKJV)

The Divine Remedy For Sin! • Alien sinner’s must… • Hear the Gospel - Romans 10:17; 1:16 • Believe - John 5:24 • Repent - Luke 13:3 • Confess Christ - Acts 8:37 • Be baptized in water – Mark 16:16 • Erring children of God must… • Repent and Pray - Acts 8:22 • And live faithfully unto death – Rev. 2:10b
