  3. 1781 - Yorktown • Washington sees his chance to trap the British – surrounds Yorktown with 16,000 troops (French and Continental troops) • Meanwhile the French Navy seized control of the Chesapeake Bay • The British were surrounded • The siege of Yorktown begins

  4. 1781- Yorktown • On October 19, 1781 Cornwallis officially surrenders • The Battle of Yorktown is the last majorbattle of the Revolution • Prime Minister – Lord North – declares “It is all over!”
