  2. All Psychologists believe… That all theories about behavior and thought must be supported through scientific evidence. Research, of any kind, must be the basis for all decisions they make as psychologists.

  3. Psychologists can vary… • In their areas of interest • Some psychologists choose to study behavior through experiments. • Some psychologists choose to help people change their behavior through therapy.

  4. Clinical Psychologists What most people commonly think of when they hear “psychologist”. Help their clients through therapy, which leads to change in behavior.

  5. School Psychologists Identify and help students who have difficulty learning. Administer tests (IQ) to students. Also help students with behavioral issues by providing support.

  6. Developmental Psychologists Interested in studying changes that occur over the whole lifespan. Changes can be physical, emotional, cognitive, or social. Adolescence is a stage of development that many developmental psychologists focus their time and research on.

  7. Personality Psychologists Identify characteristics and traits such as shyness and friendliness. Study how people develop traits. Interested in how traits can lead to psychological problems (depression).

  8. Social Psychologists • Interested with people's behavior in social situations. • Areas of interest include: • Differences between men and women. • Attraction • Behavior when in groups • Violent and non-violent behavior

  10. Cooperative Learning The goal of this exercise is to apply your new knowledge of the different psychologists through group discussion and analysis.
