KseniyaSimonova(1985-) • KseniyaSimonova is a ‘Sand Artist’. • Kseniya doesn’t just draw pictures in sand – she tells stories through pictures that she draws in sand – ‘Sand Animation’. • Audiences are known to cry because the stories she tells through her sand pictures are so moving and beautiful. • Kseniya won the ‘Ukrainian’s Got Talent’ show. • Kseniya shows us that art can be done in many, many different ways.

Max Levchin(1975 -) • Max Levchin was born into a Jewish family in Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union). • He moved to the United States under political asylum. • Max is a computer scientist and an internet entrepreneur. • Max Levchin was one of the three co-founders of PayPal. • Until 2011 Max Levchin was Vice President of Engineering for Google. • On his website Max says, ‘Now, I am working on solving hard, valuable, and fun problems.’

Roberta Bondar(1945-) • Roberta Bondar is Canadian of Ukrainian descent. • Roberta Bondar (РобертаБондар) is Canada's first female astronaut. • Roberta Bondar is a neurologist, a medical doctor specializing in nervous system (the brain, spinal cord and nerves). • One of the photographs on the left shows Roberta trying to eat in space - her food is floating around in front of her!

Sergey Bubka(1963-) • Sergey Bubka is a retired Ukrainian pole vaulter. • Bubka has won six World Championships. • Bubka has an Olympic gold medal, and broke the world record for men’s pole vaulting 35 times. • Bubka also holds the current outdoor world record of 6.14 metres set on 31 July 1994. • Bubka also holds the current indoor world record of 6.15 metres, set on 21 February 1993.

MykolaLeontovych1877 – 1921 • MykolaLeontovych was a Ukrainian composer. • Leontovych specialized in cappella choral music. • Cappella music is when people sing without instrumental accompaniment. • He is best known for composing "Shchedryk" in 1904 known in English as "Carol of the Bells" or as "Ring Christmas Bells."  • “Carol of the Bells” is based on an old Ukrainian folk song. The original lyrics describe a swallow flying into a house. • The word "shchedryi" means "bountiful." The folk melody was sung in many Ukrainian villages.

AndriyShevchenko(1976 - ) • Andriy Shevchenko is a world famous footballer. • During his football career Andriy Shevchenko played for Dynamo Kyiv, Milan, Chelsea and the Ukraine national team. • Andriy Shevchenko is a striker which means he is the team goal scorer. • Shevchenko is ranked as the third top goal scorer in all European competitions with 67 goals. • The Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball) is an award given annually to the player considered to have performed the best out of all the footballers in the world in the previous season. • Andriy Shevchenko received the award in 2004. • He retired from football in 2012 and is planning to start a new career in politics.
