  1. LHCb DC2004 in Russia Ivan Korolko (ITEP Moscow) Russia-CERN JWGC, September 2004

  2. LHCb DC2004 aims Physics Goals: 1. HLT studies 2. S/B studies, consolidate background estimates, background properties Requires quantitative increase in number of events: 1. 30x106 signal events (~80 channels) 2. 15x106 specific background events 3. 125x106 generic background events (Binclusive+MB)

  3. LHCb DC2004 aims Gather information for the LHCb computing TDR ● Robustness test of the LHCb software and production system ● Test of the LHCb distributed computing model including distributed analysis ● Incorporation of the LCG application software into the LHCb production system ● Use of LCG resources as a substantial fraction of the production capacity

  4. LHCb DC2004 schedule 3 phases: • MC Production • Stripping (event preselection) • Analysis May – middle of September Starting soon In preparation

  5. Russian participants All 4 centers were involved: • JINR 28 PIII-933 MHz • IHEP 32 PIII-933 MHz + 32 PIV-2.8GHz • ITEP 64 PIV-2.4GHz • SINP-MSU 20 PIII-933 MHz Many thanks to V.Romanovsky (IHEP) and V.Mitsyn (JINR)

  6. Phase 1 Completed 186 M Produced Events Phase 1 Completed 3-5 106/day LCG restarted LCG paused LCG in action 1.8 106/day DIRAC alone

  7. The Phase 1 Statistics 20 DIRAC Sites 43 LCG Sites

  8. The Phase 1 Statistics 424 CPU · Years

  9. The Phase 1 Statistics

  10. Next phases • 2 TB of produced MC samples (DST files) are stored in Russia (ITEP). We plan to participate in stripping procedure. • Analysis phase is certainly most interesting. does not require “huge” resources

  11. Summary • Russian centers have produced 4.85% (9M events) using more than 60% of all available resources • Several “weak” places: disk capacity (even for LHCb!) network connectivity (many retries) • We certainly need more resources in 2005 increase CPU power increase mass storage Accurate planning is important
