  4. Supplies • Students had a supply quiz today! • If your student didn’t have their supplies for a personal reason, I worked with them individually. Otherwise they needed to have: • 2” Binder Pencil Pouch • 8 tab/dividers Pens and Pencils • (2) Folders Big Eraser • Journal/Notebook Sharpener • Notebook Paper Planner • Book of their choice to read

  5. Grades/updates • Students will use one of their folders for homework if I can work it out that they can keep their binders in my room. • To keep you updated look for: • Notes in your student’s planner • Written messages given to the student for you • Phone calls • Updates on the website • (if your students gets a 100 on something after a long struggle I will make a celebration call! Or if they were doing well and get a D or F then you’ll get a call as well) • My grading policy is if a student is late on an assignment they will get 10 points off for each day it is late. • It is imperative that your students keep track of their work and turn it in. • Their Binder is a project grade that they will work on the whole year. I will be doing binder checks frequently.

  6. What you can do to help • Be sure to check for any updates from me (planner, note home, website, etc.) • Encourage your student to study vocabulary, read, finish assignments and remember them • Ask them about extra credit assignments that they can to do • Practice reading strategies at home.

  7. Current News • If you would like a list of suggestions for parents to help students, there is an informational sheet from the Department of Education with some helpful tips for parents. • Any other questions feel free to ask. • On the back bookshelf is a flyer for the PSAT sign up for Juniors • Also students can take a practice ACT next Saturday August 31st at Fleming Island High School • It doesn’t count against them and it always helps to practice. The sign up for it is due by tomorrow.
