How to Transplant Hair: What Should You Expect As with health and youth Most of us tend to take our locks for granted and forget about them when they're lost. For many , hair transplants can restore what appears to be a full or, at a minimum, a bigger amount of hair. If the appearance of your hair is dingy or going to the bald spot really bothers you, then the procedure could be a way to be more confident in your appearance. First, talk to your doctor about what are likely to experience prior to and following the procedure. What is a Hair Transplant ? It's a kind of surgery which moves hair that already in place to fill in an area of thin or hairless. Doctors have been performing these procedures in the U.S. since the 1950s however, the techniques have changed drastically in the past few times. The procedure is usually performed in the physician's office. First, the surgeon cleanses your scalp before injecting medicine to reduce the pain in the back of your head. The doctor will select one of two ways to perform the procedure: follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
The surgeon using FUSS takes a 6- to 10-inch skin strip from the side of your scalp. Then, they set it aside and then sew the scalp shut. This is quickly covered by the hair surrounding it. The team of surgeons divides the cut scalp into 500-2,000 tiny grafts that each have one hair or some hairs. The amount and type of graft you'll receive is contingent on the type of hair you have the quality, color and the size of the area you'll be receiving the transplant. If you're going through the FUE procedure The surgeon's team will trim the scalp's back. The doctor will take hair follicles, one by one from the area. The wound is then healed using small dots, and your existing hair will be able to cover. At this point it is identical. After preparing the grafts after which the surgeon cleans and numbs the region in which the hair will grow and then creates slits or holes using a scalpel or needle and carefully inserts the grafts in the holes. They may also get assistance from the other members of the team to place the grafts too. Based on the amount of transplant it can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. There may be a need for another procedure should you continue losing hair, or decide that you would like longer hair. Expectations and Recovery Following the procedure the scalp could be extremely painful. You might need to take pain medication for several days. The surgeon will require you to apply bandages to your scalp for one or two days. They might give you an antibiotic anti-inflammatory medication that you take for a few days. The majority of patients are able to return to work between 2 and five days following the surgery. In the two to three weeks following surgery, hair transplanted will begin to fall out, however you should begin to see the growth of new hair within a few months. The majority of people will experience 60% of their new hair growth between 6 and nine months. Some surgeons recommend minoxidil, which is a hair-growing medication (Rogaine) to increase the growth of hair after transplantation, however it's not known what it does. Risks and the Costs of Treatment The cost of a hair transplant is largely dependent upon the quantity of hair that you're moving and the amount of hair you're moving, but generally it can range from $4,000 to $15,000. Most insurance plans don't cover it.
As with all procedure, transplants come with certain risks, such as bleeding and infections. Also, there is the possibility of the formation of scars and an unnatural appearance to growing hair. At the point when new hair begin to develop there are people who suffer from an infection or inflammation of hair follicles known as Folliculitis. The use of compresses and antibiotics may help ease the issue. It is also possible to suddenly lose a portion of the hair that was originally in the area that you got new hair strands, a process known as shock loss. However, the majority times this isn't permanent. Discuss with your physician regarding these risks and the amount of improvement you're likely get from the procedure. They'll help you decide whether it's the right choice for you.
