  1. Keep Your Website Safe From Hackers And Spammers

  2. According  to  Facebook,  it  faces  600,000  hacking  attempts  on  a  daily  basis  and  on  an  average 30,000 new websites are distributing suspicious codes without being aware of the  visitors to their sites. There is a general misconception that a site can be infected only if it  is linked or have visited an adult site or gambling sites. But the eye opening truth is theses  30,000  sites  are  among  the  small  business  website  that  run  their  business  online  legitimately. The cyber criminals are using their sites distributing malicious code without  their knowledge. It is also bursting the myth that only large businesses and government  websites have something to serve the hackers’ purpose and we owning a small site have  anything  worth  being  hacked  for.

  3. In fact, cyber criminals use automated scanning tools to search the websites with potential security In fact, cyber criminals use automated scanning tools to search the websites with potential security  vulnerabilities to inject their malicious code and when there is a vulnerability, they happily welcome it  to spread their malware. Today, despite of numerous security programs, no one can claim to be fool proof because fraudsters are  always close behind. Those were the days, when hackers used to hack sites to boost their skills in their  community, but as the crime have spread its wings and to grow this industry needs a large number of  servers to remain undetected while they spread their criminal activities in every nook and corner. Once hackers hack the website they add spam pages to use various purposes and redirecting the users  to unknown or harmful destinations is one of them. Google has recently noticed a tremendous increase  in such websites that redirect users to an undesired location.

  4. There are many ways that webmasters can follow to keep their site secure from the spammers and hackers, some of them are:  Install the updates of software when recommended  Think smartly while choosing a Password  Limit the Access  Keep an eye on the unusual traffic on your site  Install a firewall and antivirus  Keep a backup of your website  Don’t display your email address on your website  Check your backlink profile

  5. Install the Updates of Software When Recommended Installing any plugin or a software and let it run is just like keeping your front door open to  invite thieves to enter into your house. Once the software informs you about the new version  or update, do it. Update your plugin from a trusted website only and limit the number of  plugins installed on your site because every plugins has some vulnerability.

  6. Think Smartly While Choosing a Password What people do they choose their name following with their date of birth, so that they can memorize it easily? But they forgot these types of passwords are easy to hack. One password that can be complex but easy to memorize can be your cell number with your vehicle registration number followed by one or two special characters. Try to keep unique passwords for different accounts.

  7.  Limit the Access Limit the number of the people to access the hosting, Site admin & FTP.  However, it is best to only limit access to you, however, if necessary, allow  only one or two other people.

  8.  Keep an Eye on the Unusual Traffic on Your Site Regularly check the analytics of your site to know any abnormal traffic from specific locations. If  people out of your targeted customers and your targeted location are paying visits to your site,  most probably they may be hackers. For example, you own a website for renting cottages or  condominium in Miami, and you are getting frequent visits from outside USA, you should be  suspicious because why would someone outside USA be interested in renting in Miami?

  9.  Install a Firewall and Antivirus Firewalls keep your site safe from hackers and viruses. You can personalize the settings of the  security programs. Choose an antivirus program that can lock your site once any suspicious  activity is deducted on your website.

  10.  Keep a Backup of Your Website Regular backup of your site will save you from any data loss, if unfortunately hackers hit you. In  such case, you will have to do minor work to rebuild your site.

  11.  Don’t Display Your Email Address on Your Website Hackers are in search of such website who post their email addresses, so that they can use it to  send spam. So what should you do? Build a central contact page with a fill in form for the visitors  to fill it out if they want to contact you.

  12.  Check Your Backlink Profile Checking your backlink profile will keep you updated about the back link sources because it is  equally important to know who is creating links or redirecting to your website. There are many  tools  available  that  can  give  to  the  detailed  report  about  the  back  links  and  if  you  find  some  suspicious links coming to your site, you can use the Google Disavow Tool, but the tool should be  used cautiously and as a last resort.
