Set aside.  In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3.  Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Stir in the vanilla extract.  Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk.  Begin and end with the dry ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth and creamy.  Add pinch of orange red food colour from Anuja Food Colours to achieve the desired vibrant hue.  Once the cakes have cooled completely, spread a layer of orange frosting on top of one cake layer.  Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining orange frosting.  Optional: Decorate the cake with orange slices and additional orange zest for a festive touch.
