  1. Elf on the Shelf is a popular tradition for young children Every year, the Elf on the Shelf craze hits a new high. You may have heard about it from friends or family, or maybe you were lucky enough to receive one as a holiday gift. Maybe your child already has an elf that they love very much. What is this mysterious little doll? Is it safe for my children to play with? Can it come to my house too? The Elf on the Shelf is a toy doll, typically in the shape of either an elf or Santa's helper. The idea is that parents—usually during the month of December will bring their elf into their children's rooms while they are sleeping at night, and place it in various areas—on the mantle, atop the fridge, even in the oven.

  2. This elf is said to be watching your child throughout December until Christmas Eve when it will magically fly back to the North Pole. But what is this elf doing while he watches your child? Here are some of his activities reported on by parents: He's spying on my kids! One website suggested that the elf should not be used as a "spy" like it is often depicted, but instead acts more like Santa's helpers who report good deeds to him. While this does allow parents to subtly encourage their children toward better behaviour, it also teaches kids that they are being watched and judged by an outsider—which does not have to be the case. The elf is always watching, making sure your child is behaving well and acting as a warning that he or she might report their behaviour back to Santa Claus. If you are uncomfortable with this idea, simply tell your children that the Elf on the Shelf is there to stay during December but will leave before Christmas. It encourages creativity and imagination as well as family bonding time One of the most loved Christmas traditions in my family is to have an elf on our shelf that reports back to Santa every night. My son loves it when he comes home from school and tells us what the elf has been up to. He spends a lot of time with his friends talking about the fun things they do. We can see from the things he's been doing in the morning that he talks a lot about his elf with his friends after school. In fact, I have had so many parents asking me what my son is going to be for Halloween this year because they loved getting creative and decorating their elves at home.

  3. If you are an elf on the shelf fan, it's time to start decorating with elf accessories. These fun accessories will help you and your children get creative in making the coolest looking elf on the shelf.
