What causes QuickBooks multi-user error H202? • QuickBooks multi-user error H202 arises when QuickBooks Desktop tries to connect to the company file but fails to communicate with the server computer due to one of the reasons we have mentioned down below: • Network connectivity issues between the server computer and workstation. • The Windows Firewall of the server is preventing the workstation from connecting to it. • QuickBooks database server manager is not functioning on the server computer.
What should you do to get rid of QuickBooks error H202? Solution 1) From the QuickBooks Tool Hub application, run the QuickBooks Database Server Manager • On the server computer, download the QuickBooks Tool Hub application of the most recent version (1.5.0.0). • Select the downloaded installer named QuickBooksToolHub.exe and follow the instructions you see on the computer screen. • To complete the QuickBooks Tool Hub installing, agree to the terms and conditions. • Double-click the icon of QuickBooks Tool Hub to open the application. • Select the Network Issues tab at the left panel. • Under the Fix My Network section, select the QuickBooks Database Server Manager button. • Click on the Browse button to select the QuickBooks company file and then choose the Start Scan button. • Once the database server manager is done scanning the company file, choose the Close button. • Now, open the QuickBooks Desktop application and try to switch it to multi-user mode.
Solution 2) Resolve the network connectivity issues between the server and workstation First, we need to ping the server from the workstation where you get the error and if there is any network connectivity issue between them, resolve it using the QuickBooks File Doctor tool. Step 1) Turn on network discovery on the workstation and the server computer • On the workstation and the server computer, open the Windows Start menu. • Into the search box, enter “Control” and then select Control Panel from the list of search results. • On the Control Panel window, select the Network and Sharing Centre option. • From the left panel, select the Change advanced sharing settings option. • Under the Network Discovery section, select the Turn on network discovery option. • Click on the Save Changes button. Step 2) Find the hostname on the server computer: • On the keyboard, press Windows + R keys at the same time to open the Run window. • In the Run window, enter “CMD” and click on the OK button. • In the command prompt window, enter “ipconfig/all” and then press the Enter key on the keyboard. • In the Windows IP Configuration section, look for the Host Name and make a note of the server’s name (mentioned on the right-side).
Step 3) Ping the server computer from the workstation • On the workstation, open the Windows Start menu. • Into the search box, enter “CMD” and select Command Prompt from the list of search results. • In the command prompt window, enter “ping_[name of the server] and then press the Enter key on the keyboard. • If you notice a reply for each packet with zero loss, the network connection between the server and workstation is stable. However, if there’s a very slow reply or packet loss, run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub application you have downloaded in solution 1. Solution 3) Manually set the Windows Firewall settings for QuickBooks Desktop • On the keyboard, press Windows +R keys at the same time to open the Run window. • In the Run window, enter “control firewall.cpl” and then click on the OK button. • Select the Advanced Settings at the left panel. • Look for the Inbound Rules link, right-click on it, and select the New Rule option. • Select the Port option and then choose the Next button. • Select the TCP option and then enter the port number in the Specific local ports: column as per the QuickBooks version year you are using. • Choose the Next button.
Select the Allow the Connection option and then choose the Next button. • Make sure to checkmark all profiles as prompted and then choose the Next button. • Make a new rule and name it “QBPorts(version year).” • Choose the Finish button. Now, create the outbound rules by repeating the steps mentioned above in the same manner, except you are required to right-click on Outbound Rules instead of Inbound Rules. Conclusion: Even after implementing all the troubleshooting solutions explained in the post, if QuickBooks error H202 persists, then there is a great possibility that some internal QuickBooks services, like QuickBooksDBXX or QBCFMonitorService, are not running on the server computer. Our recommendation for you is to restart the necessary internal QuickBooks services and see whether this fixes the error or not.
