Heat Exhaustion – Introduction What is Heat Exhaustion? • Heat exhaustion is a type of heat-related sickness that can happen after you've been outside for a while and is usually caused by dehydration. • There are two kinds of heat exhaustion: water exhaustion and salt exhaustion. • Water exhaustion usually means you're too thirsty, weak, have a headache, and might even lose consciousness. • Salt exhaustion, on the other hand, usually means you're not feeling well, like you might be throwing up, have muscle cramps, or be dizzy.
Heat Exhaustion – Causes What causes Heat Exhaustion? • Your core temperature is the internal temperature of your body, which is determined by the combination of your body's heat and environmental heat. • Your body must maintain a balance between heat gain and heat loss in hot or cold conditions in order to maintain an average core temperature that is consistent with your body's natural temperature. The average temperature of your core is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius).
