Heat Stroke – Introduction What is Heat Stroke? • Heatstroke is a medical condition in which the body experiences excessive temperature, typically due to long-term exposure to or physical activity in high temperatures. • It is the most severe form of heat injury and can occur when the body temperature reaches 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 Celsius) or higher. • Heatstroke is most commonly observed during the summer months.

Heat Stroke – Action to be taken If you suspect heatstroke:- • Step 1: Get the person out of direct sunlight and into a cool, air-conditioned area. • Step 2: Get emergency medical help. • Step 3: Cool the person down by covering them with damp sheets or spraying them with cool water. • Step 4: Direct some air onto the person using a fan or newspaper. • Step 5: If the person is able, get them a glass of cool water or another non-alcoholic drink without caffeine
Heat Stroke – Action to be taken What First Aid Can Help Heat Stroke • If you have a young, healthy person who has suffered a heat stroke while doing strenuous exercise, you can cool them down with an ice bath. • To do this, fan air over them while soaking their skin in a bucket of water from a garden hose. • Then, apply ice packs to their armpits and thighs. • These areas are packed with blood vessels near the skin, so cooling them can help lower their body temperature. • Finally, put them in a hot shower or a tub of cold water.
