Human Bites – Introduction What is Human Bites? • Human bites can be as dangerous as or even more dangerous than animal bites because of the types of bacteria and viruses contained in the human mouth. • If someone cuts his or her knuckles on another person's teeth, as might happen in a fight, this is also considered a human bite.

  3. Human Bites – Are human bites dangerous? Are human bites dangerous? • Sometimes human bite wounds are more dangerous than you think. Bacteria in human saliva increases the risk of infection. • While a bite wound may look harmless, a bacterial infection can cause more serious infections and complications.

Human Bites – Action to be taken If you suffer a human bite that punctures the skin: • If you get bit by a human, make sure to stop the bleeding with a dry cloth, wash the wound thoroughly, put on some antibiotic cream to stop infection, and put on a clean, non-stick bandage to cover the area. • Then, get to the hospital and get medical help right away. • If you haven't been vaccinated against tetanus in five years, you might be able to get a booster shot within a day or two.
