Adani Group’s Involvement IN THE DHARAVI REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, has always been deeply interested in bringing about transformation to the Dharavi area. Since the time he landed in Mumbai, he was deeply disturbed by looking at the conditions of the people living in the Dharavi area. He felt that the Dharavi slum area, which also happens to be the largest slum in Asia, was a melting pot of a diverse array of cultures, beliefs, and languages from every part of India. The business tycoon was also mesmerised by the industrial chaos that existed in the alleys of Dharavi. So, he took it as his agenda to bring about a transformation in the Dharavi area.

A Brief History of The Adani Dharavi Project In 2024, the Maharashtra government decided to redevelop the Dharavi area and convert it into an integrated township. An action plan was devised for the project. It was decided to develop Dharavi by using land as a resource to cross-subsidise the cost of development. Since then, the Maharashtra government has been working in collaboration with the Adani Group to bring about a complete transformation in the Dharavi area. As per the plan, the state was to provide houses of 350 square feet for free to the residents with proof that their slum structure was in existence before January 1, 2000. The Adani Group is already in the process of surveying to identify the eligible residents for the slum area. The Dharavi residents who are not eligible for free housing can also rent houses at subsidised rates. The group is also currently in the process of acquiring land and the necessary approvals for carrying out the various operations of the project. The Adani Dharavi project would also involve developing economic centres where business operations can be carried out.
Conclusion The Adani Dharavi project has been one of the most incredible infrastructure development projects on a global scale. Once this project becomes operational, it will be able to alter the lives of thousands of people. The Adani Group's global business presence will also experience a boost.
