You must continuously reinvent yourself, continuously stay ahead of trends and styles to remain at the top. Where should you begin your journey in the fashion world? The best place to begin this exciting and lifelong journey is at a fashion school. A fashion designing course is designed in such a manner that it teaches you the skills required to excel in this industry as well as the secrets that help you prosper. However, when it comes to courses in fashion designing, there are many available. Some of the popular courses are – •Bachelor in Fashion Design, •Bachelor of Fashion Technology, •Bachelor of Design, •BBA in Fashion Entrepreneurship, •Diploma Degree in Fashion Designing, •Masters in Fashion Management, •Master in Fashion Design, •Master in Fashion Technology HOW TO SEEK ADMISSION IN A FASHION DESIGNING COURSE There are three categories of courses available in fashion designing – graduate-level courses, post-graduate courses, and diploma courses. According to your capability, requirement, and qualification, you can seek admissions at any level. If you want a bachelor’s degree in fashion designing, you must have passed your higher secondary examinations with at least 50% (the cut-off can differ depending on the college). Diploma courses are available both at the graduate level as well as post-graduate level. For a post-graduation degree, you will need a have a bachelor’s degree. Though it is not mandatory to complete your graduation in fashion designing, doing so will give you an edge at the post-graduation level. COLLEGES OFFERING FASHION DESIGNING COURSES Fashion designing is an emerging career choice in India. Over the last two decades, many have successfully launched their careers in the fashion industry after completing their fashion designing course. Before you seek admissions in any college, you must run a background check to know a few things such as – •Accreditation–Is the college you are choosing accredited to a nationally recognised board or university? You must be very careful about this because UGC (University Grants Commission) regularly de-lists colleges with wrongful or misleading accreditation. •Infrastructure–The college you are seeking admissions in must have state-of-art infrastructure including garment construction lab, pattern making, and grading lab, textile lab, etc. •Faculty- Teachers are your guiding lights. Without encouraging, motivating, and learned teachers you cannot learn much. That’s why always check out the faculty list of the college to see the who’s who teaching you. Also, note their industry experience. •Placements–At the end of the day, you must get a job right after passing out. Though many colleges promise so, few manage to deliver. Track their placement records to see whether they invite fashion brands, retails, and fashion designers for job placements.
