  2. HOW DO COCONUT SEEDS PLANTED FOR COCONUT OIL COCONUT IS PROPAGATED THROUGH SEEDLINGS RAISED FROM SELECTED SEED NUTS. GENERALLY 9 TO 12 MONTHS OLD SEEDLINGS ARE USED FOR PLANTING. SELECT SEEDLINGS, WHICH HAVE 6-8 LEAVES AND 10-12 CM WIDTH WHEN THEY ARE 9-12 MONTH OLD. CHECK ON THE COCONUT EVERY WEEK FOR GERMINATION. ONCE THE NUT HAS SPROUTED AND STARTED TO GROW ROOTS, GENTLY WRAP A DAMP PAPER TOWEL AROUND THE ROOTS AND PLACE THE SEED BACK INTO THE BAG.
