  4. RAINN • Made up of National Leadership Council group of individuals who have been appointed based on their commitment to RAINN's mission. • National Leadership Council members collaborate with RAINN staff members to steer the fundraising and communications objectives of the organization.

  5. RAINN Cont… • National Sexual Assault Hotline Free, Confidential, and Secure service live through the RAINN website. This service works just like instant messaging and it is a private session, participants type messages back and forth. Services are provided by RAINN and local rape crisis centers across the US. • All Volunteers have completed state-mandated training.

  6. Services the Online Hotlines provides • Crisis intervention and support; • Answers to questions about sexual assault; • Information about medical issues; • Explanations of the criminal justice system; • Referrals to resources within your area; • Information for family and friends of victims.

  7. Other Services Provided • Statistics • How to reduce your risk of Sexual Assault; • Effects of Sexual Assault; • Policies involving DNA laws; • Reporting the crime to the Police; • Learn the many forms of Sexual Assault; • Recovering from Sexual Assault; and • Links to other organizations.

Information on reducing your chances of a Sexual Assault • Be aware of your surroundings; • Try to avoid isolated areas; • Walk with Purpose; • Trust your instincts; • Try not to carry to many things; • Have your cell phone with you; • Don’t allow yourself to be isolated; and • Avoid music headphones in both ears.

  9. RAINN Services cont… • RAINN also provides information on new legislation; • Also, there is information on the Anatomy of a Rape case to read so people are familiar with the steps and victims experiences; and • Many ways that they fundraise and train the community through the Speakers Bureau.

  10. Victim Service Center for Orange County • Brainchild of former Orange County Commissioner Mary I. Johnson in 1996 • Became non-profit in 2001; • Opened in 1999 • In 2005, they opened the VSC’s Sexual Assault Treatment Center. • Assist Survivors of all types of Crime;

  11. Victim Service Center • Assists all victims of Orange County and those who had crimes committed to them in Orange County; • Assists crimes in Assault, Car Jacking, stalking, Robbery, Vandalism, Elder Abuse, Hit & Run, Attempted Homicide, Sexual Assault, Home Invasion and Domestic Violence.

VSC Services • 24-hour Sexual Violence Hotline; • 24-hour response to sexual violence victims; • Crisis intervention; • Safety planning; • Personal Advocacy Services; • Social Services referral; • Legal Advocacy; • Victim Compensation Assistance; • Therapy; • Education and Training; • Outreach and community awareness programs.

  13. Victim Service Center • Five (5) Advocates who are Certified Sex Violence of Orange County specially trained in: Case Management; Planning Social Services; and Criminal Justice Advocacy. Translation skills available

  14. VSC Continued.. • All victims/Survivors report to the Sex Assault Treatment Center; • An Advocate is called in to assist during the collection of evidence; • SANE helps collect the evidence Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner); • Cases not reported have forensics housed for later if needed.
