The Added Value of eHealth • eHealth is not a set of products, tools or application but a range of response to the need to improve and transform healthcare services • Cost saving is important but does only represents one side of the added value of eHealth • The role and value of eHealth is in supporting and enabling the transformation of healthcare services • Is then eHealth indispensable or simply useful? 1st eHealth conference - Sofia

The Diabetes Paradox … • In a recent report, Dr Line Kleinebreil, Vice Chairman PCD Europe, concluded • Diabetes, an IMPOSSIBLE challenge for primary care: • < 40% diabetic patients have the recommended annual check-up • Primary care professionals are key resources for chronic patients in « old Europe » but are BURNT OUT and asking for help • URGENT NEED for appropriate use of e-health (e-education, call centres, home care) to improve chronic care today and face the epidemic tomorrow • Rome conference of EHTEL (October 2005) 1st eHealth conference - Sofia
