  2. Locksmithing… • An important part of locksmithing includes fitting and replacement of keys and modern locksmiths are primarily involved in the installation of high quality lock-sets and the design, implementation & management of keying and key control systems.

  5. LOCK is a… LOCK is a… Fastening device that is released by physical object e.g. keys. It may be a mechanical or electronic device and a key, keycard, fingerprint, RFID card, security token etc act as releasing device that follows a specific pattern or combination.

  8. WARDED LOCK A set of obstructions, or wards, to prevent the lock from opening unless the correct key is inserted is used in warded locks. A well-designed skeleton key can successfully open a wide variety of warded locks and are typically reserved for low-security applications.

  9. PIN TUMBLER LOCK Such locks have a set of pins that halt the locks from opening unless a correct key with specific set of grooves on either sides of the key is inserted. A series of pointed notches on the blade, called bittings, and then allow pins to move up and down until they are in line with the shear line of the inner and outer cylinder, allowing the cylinder or cam to rotate freely and the lock to open.

  10. WAFER TUMBLER LOCK • These are similar to pin tumbler lock but differs from disc tumbler lock and works on a similar principle but the only difference lies in the pin and wafer format. In pin tumbler lock, each pin consists of two or more pieces whereas in wafer tumbler lock each wafer is a single piece.

  11. DISC TUMBLER LOCK OR ABLOY LOCK • Lock having slotted rotating detainer discs and gives the highest security and impossible • to pick. LEVER TUMBLER LOCK • A set of levers is used to prevent the bolt from moving in the lock.

  12. In these locks the bolt and cylinder are connected to the motor within the door using a part called an actuator and the driving force behind all this setup is electric current. ELECTRONIC KEY OPERATED LOCKS A keycard lock operates with a flat card using the same dimensions as a credit card or US and EU driver's license. In order to open the door, one needs to successfully match the signature within the keycard.

  13. A Smart Lock is an electro-mechanics lock that gets instructions. To lock and unlock the door from an authorized device using a cryptographic key and wireless protocol.
