    Single container for spatial and tabular data (within a RDBMS table space) Currently uses MS access, Oracle, DB2, SQLserver file formats Relationships and behaviors are included!

    Geodatabase can support relational interconnections. Behaviors: flow direction on a network – upstream/downstream Topological relationships Support for complex networks. Other object-oriented features (valves, pumps, transmitters, etc.)

    Slide 15:NHD description

    The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a comprehensive spatial dataset that contains surface water features such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, springs and wells. Within the NHD, surface water features are combined to form "reaches," which provide the framework for linking water-related data to the NHD surface water drainage network. These linkages enable the analysis and display of these water-related data in upstream and downstream order. The stream reaches are networks that support the addition of local “events” such as a dam, gage or sample point.

    The NHD has flowlines, polygons and point features. Water body Network flow Point features Add an “Event” to the network and trace all downstream segments with a simple command.
