  2. Hydrogen fuel cells produce energy through the several chemical processes that take place inside it. This is how the process goes. First, pure hydrogen is fed into the cell and broken into singular hydrogen atoms, which are positive, and electrons, which are the negative atoms we use for energy.Then, on the other side of the circuit, the hydrogen atoms are mixed with oxygen and reform into water. Thus, a hydrogen fuel cell as an energy source: Runs on the most abundant element in the universe (hydrogen).

  3. Requires the second most abundant element on Earth (oxygen). Produces the most beneficial and useful compound on Earth as waste (pure water). It’s hard to believe we aren’t using these things everywhere already! Hydrogen is already used in various industrial processes and is produced in bulk quantities. There are companies which have hydrogen plants and hydrogen generators (sometimes more than one) on their premises. So manufacture is not a problem. Then why isn’t hydrogen being used on a commercial scale?

  4. The Reason It isn’t that hydrogen fuel cells or hydrogen energy aren’t used in India at all. Just now a hydrogen fuel cell powered bus was flagged off by IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) in collaboration with Tata Motors. Giants like Mahindra and Hero have already made plans to use hydrogen fuel cells in their automobiles within this decade. Amazon has

  5. invested in fuel cells for motive operations. Then, what is the problem? The problem is the disadvantages which are too big to solve at this moment. Here have a look: 1. Hydrogen has to be purified to a certain degree before it can function correctly in a fuel cell. Not only is it difficult but expensive. 2. The gas is notoriously difficult to handle once it’s been cleaned. 3. Transporting and storing it without contaminating the gas again becomes an issue.

  6. 4. Storage and transportation is again, expensive. 50% of the operational cost of a fuel cell comes from storage and transportation. All these problems are being worked upon as we speak, and are expected to be solved within this decade. Hydrogen energy is not an industry that will be fading back into the background.
